A Splash Of Colour

International Timber has supplied Sikkens painted redwood cladding for a development of 77 new houses and flats built for Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association by construction company Rok. Supplied through Scott Frame Timber Engineering, a range of four different coloured claddings were specified because they provided an easy-to-fix, durable option that also enabled them to give the development a splash of colour.

Part of the Association’s Home Farm development in Portree on the Isle of Skye, the site offers a range of two, three and four bedroom, two storey houses as well as one bedroom apartments.

Challenging weather conditions halted construction for nearly 100 days and, to protect the cladding in the longer term, International Timber worked closely with coatings specialist Sikkens to ensure redwood linings were protected by extra layers of paint.

Gavin Brown, contracts manager at Rok said: “Aesthetically, the cladding offered a great alternative to rendered blockwork and the Sikkens coating offered a durable solution to deal with the unpredictable weather at the site. The International Timber team offered its expertise to help us overcome challenges on the development and their technical knowledge, customer service and the quality of the product were all excellent.”

Steve Rogers, product and market director at International Timber adds: “The challenges encountered on the site meant that the International Timber team was able to demonstrate its breadth of knowledge and partnership approach to resolving any issues caused by the weather. This is the first time International Timber has worked with Rok, but we hope to continue to build the relationship on future projects.”
