NEW ISLINGTON - GREAT PLACES PROJECT. Using ACCOYA & TRICOYA

Background

DJ Hughes Construction is a family-run construction company that provides refurbishment work to Housing Associations in Manchester. They specialise in refurbishment, new builds, design builds, eco homes and garden allotments.

The Project

Contractors, DJ Hughes Construction ltd required hardwearing and easy-to-manage materials for a public housing refurbishment project in New Islington.

When the New Islington housing estate was originally built, the designing architect won a prestigious award for their cutting-edge designs, however, the materials used in construction, didn’t perform as anticipated. Just nine years after completion, the estate already needed to be refurbished.

Our Products

International Timber advised that they should invest in more sustainable materials to withstand the unpredictable British weather. International Timber recommended they use Tricoya and Accoya wood, which has been tested over prolonged periods of time in all types of conditions. Although the initial cost of this is more than other materials it is much more resilient and is anticipated to last in excess of 55 years, providing long-term value.

Phil Taylor at International Timber, said: “When constructing a project, especially on such a large scale, it is important for contractors to look at the long-term performance of the products. Social Housing Groups have a long-term responsibility, so investing in low-maintenance and sustainable products will prove most cost-effective in the long term, we worked in conjunction with the contractor and the manufacturer to come up with the best solution for the end use, and this team effort has produced a long lasting environmentally sound solution for the client and tenants alike”
