Reducing Waste Factors

A well established door and window manufacturer based in Gloucestershire, producing high performance security doors and windows that are supplied throughout the United Kingdom to both private and social projects had always been accustomed to using solid Sapele hardwood for manufacturing timber windows and doors.
The client identified a need to increase margin and approached International Timber for a solution.
Working in partnership with them, it was identified that due to an excessive waste factor using solid material, a saving could be made by switching from solid Sapele and over to a Laminated Component from the Far East.
Their head of purchasing commented,
“We had previously manufactured our high performance doors & frames using solid hardwood. Though we realised solid hardwood gave our product the properties we needed, we had to reduce the waste factor this material was creating.
Using laminated, finger jointed hardwood from International Timber we kept all the density, thermal and durability properties solid hardwood gave but now have a minimal waste factor and less cost attached to our manufacturer”
Overall, working with International Timber led to significantly reducing time and lowering production costs, i.e. less labour costs. This allowed our customer to provide a more cost effective solution to their clients.
