New Glulam Offer
International Timber supplies Glulam
International Timber, part of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution’s Timber Group, is now a key distributor of Glulam, an attractive and environmentally friendly engineered timber product which offers numerous practical and aesthetic benefits.
Made from layers of parallel timber laminates, usually spruce or pine, Glulam offers a viable alternative to steel beams, reinforcing International Timber’s ongoing commitment to providing an unrivalled breadth and depth of high quality, sustainable timber products.
Durable and versatile, Glulam offers greater strength and rigidity than solid construction timber in equivalent dimensions. Its tensile characteristics are well suited to long span, load- bearing widths, while its natural wood appearance is ideal for applications where visual appearance is important. It can also be shaped, helping to form spacious buildings.
With better insulation properties than many other forms of building material and more fire resistance than steel, Glulam is ideal for a wide range of applications from schools and churches to supermarkets and commercial units. In addition, it is sourced from well managed forests and certified to PEFC, with FSC product available to order.
Steve Rogers, product and market director at International Timber, comments: “Traditionally, Glulam has been supplied to large scale commercial projects including timber frame buildings, but its strength, sustainability, safety and aesthetic appeal mean it is becoming a popular choice with architects, designers and craftsmen looking for a versatile engineered timber product.
“As well as commercial and public sector applications, including schools, hospitals, leisure complexes and supermarkets, Glulam is also well suited to design-led projects such as churches. It can be shaped to create a unique, curved timber structure and International Timber can provide a tailor made quotation service to meet bespoke requirements.”
Glulam is available in GL28c and h grades as standard, in thicknesses ranging from 44mm to 140mm. International Timber can supply beams in full and half loads, pack lots, split packs, house lots or cross-cut to length to meet demand, providing customers with a flexible and responsive service to meet their needs.
With over 80 years experience in timber and timber development, International Timber is a leading supplier of timber solutions, providing a superior range of products in hardwoods, softwoods, clear softwoods and treated products, as well as standard and bespoke machined profiles.
