DISTRIBUTION Black walnut is widely distributed throughout North America from south Ontario southward to Texas, and in the east from Maine to Florida, but it is not plentiful, firstly because its growth is scattered, and secondly, because of the clearing of ground for cultivation and the demands for the timber have exhausted the supply in many areas

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS Furniture, cabinet making, architectural interiors, high class joinery, doors, flooring, gunstocks and panelling. A favoured wood for using in contrast with lighter coloured timber
WORKING QUALITIES Walnut works easily with hand and machine tools and nails. Screws and gluesell. Holds paint and stain very well and can be polished to an exceptional finish. Performs best when dried slowly and has good dimensional stability
