The timber is slow to dry and drying requires care to prevent development of distortion and checking. Thick sections tend to remain green in the centre for a considerable time. There is a risk of case hardening if large sections are dried too quickly

Easy – The weathering characteristics are very good, there being little loss of surface smoothness, and remarkably little warping or surface checking in unpainted wood exposed to the elements
