Yellow Balau decking supplied for Old Brewery Quarter

International Timber, part of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution’s Timber Group, has supplied Houston Cox Interiors with £30,000 of Yellow Balau decking for a development of 400 apartments and commercial space at The Old Brewery Quarter in Bristol.

The former brewery and sugar factory located in the city centre, spans 300,000 square feet and will feature a mix of one and two bedroom apartments as well as shops and cafes, all set in landscaped public gardens.

As part of the project, International Timber’s Yellow Balau decking was supplied for the apartment’s balconies and public terraces throughout. Houston Cox Interiors chose to work with the company following collaboration on numerous projects throughout the UK, with the two businesses developing a strong working relationship over the years.

Yellow Balau decking was chosen because of its durability and natural resistance to fungal decay and insect attack. It is an even, tight-grained wood with no knots, giving a clear and therefore more visually appealing finish.

This reduces the risk of twisting and warping, and it also does not need to be treated, making it an ideal product for outdoor use.

Scott Short, quantity surveyor at Houston Cox Interiors comments, “The Old Brewery Quarter is a highly prestigious redevelopment which will be a real asset to Bristol city centre. We wanted to use a quality wood for the decking, in keeping with the high specification throughout.

The hard wearing nature of the Yellow Balau timber means it can cope with the stress of use in public areas, as well as offering an attractive and practical balcony solution for the apartments. International Timber is one of our preferred suppliers following a long history of working with the company and we did not hesitate in contacting them once we won the contract.”

Steve Rogers, product director at International Timber adds, “Yellow Balau was a perfect fit for the Old Brewery Quarter redevelopment. Thanks to our expertise in global sourcing we can provide an extensive selection of timber products, offering exceptional quality for prestigious projects such as this.”

International Timber is a leading supplier of timber solutions, providing a superior range of products in hardwoods, softwoods, clear softwoods and treated products, as well as standard and bespoke machined profiles.
