International Timber (IT) recently supplied Firside Joinery with high quality, fire-treated European oak cladding for the award-winning Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries.

IT was contacted by Firside Joinery to supply the fire-treated cladding for their latest project, which went on to win the most prestigious architecture award in the UK, the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award 2017.

Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries is situated on a well-lit street internal street, criss-crossed by bridges. Internally, the new design connects the existing library with repurposed event spaces, with a barrel-vaulted museum and three flexible art galleries. The ‘architectural promenade’ offers key views of significant historic buildings throughout Dunfermline, culminating in a cube window framing views of the Abbey.

The fire-treated European oak cladding ensured a beautiful juxtaposition with the other external materials, including sandstone, oak and corten steel.

The project, designed by Richard Murphy Architects and built by BAM Construction, was selected by the judges as a clear winner from a shortlist of twelve which were presented in June, receiving a cheque for £25,000, making it the richest architectural prize in the UK and one of the most significant in Europe.

International Timber is thrilled to have been included in such an admirable, award-winning project.
