International Timber, part of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution’s Timber Group, has supplied McCluskey Joinery with over £30,000 of lacquered Iroko cladding for 60 new apartments in prestigious residential development in Cramond, Edinburgh.
Comprising a range of unique detached houses, crescent townhouses and luxury apartments, Caer Amon is set in a beautiful rural location just a few miles from the city of Edinburgh. Inspired by traditional ‘Art & Crafts’ architecture, the contemporary buildings feature whitewashed walls and slate roofs.
As part of the £5-million project, eye-catching Iroko cladding was used on the third floor of the apartment building. McCluskey Joinery was contracted by property developer AMA to carry out the roof joinery and timber cladding works and approached International Timber to supply Iroko.
Working with conjunction with coatings specialist Sikkens, International Timber was able to provide the timber pre-lacquered, which represented a saving for McCluskey Joinery and the main contractor in terms of cost and site time.
Iroko first made inroads into the UK market in the seventies as a substitute for teak. It offered a cheaper alternative to this fashionable timber, displaying similar characteristics with its rich golden colouration and high durability, and is now a popular choice for external cladding in modern architecture.
Director of McCluskey Joinery, comments: “These apartments are a prestigious addition to a luxurious development, so we needed a timber cladding that was functional and good quality, while being aesthetically pleasing. Iroko was specified by the architect because it offered an excellent match to the surrounding properties and provided a dramatic contrast with the whitewashed walls.
“Visually, timber is much warmer and softer than UPVC, and modern coatings significantly enhance its durability, making it the ideal choice. International Timber has been one of our preferred suppliers for the past ten years. They have a wealth of knowledge, provide a professional service and are competitively priced.”
Steve Rogers, product and market director at International Timber, adds: “We have a longstanding relationship with McCluskey Joinery and, thanks to our expertise in global sourcing, can provide an extensive selection of timber and cladding products, offering exceptional quality for prestigious developments such as Cramond”
