Birch plywood

International Timber supplied carcassing and birch plywood to the Yorkshire Climbing Company enabling the build of a large wall frame at The Depot Climbing Centre in Trafford Park.

The pioneering Depot, Climbing Manchester, has created the largest indoor bouldering wall in Europe with the help of International Timber. The centre opened in January 2016 and boasts well over 1000 metres squared of climbing surface.

Birch plywood is lightweight, sustainable, multi-purpose and hard-wearing making it ideal for use at a climbing centre where it will need to withstand heavy use.

International Timber stock specialist plywood in each of their depots in Britain in both raw and overlaid, with FSC and PEFC certification. The certifications ensure the wood is of a high degree of quality and sourced in a sustainable way that minimises its impact on the wider environment.

The specialist technical plywood is ideal for sports arenas, playgrounds, stages and the transport industry. Its hardy qualities mean it is particularly well suited to leisure applications.

Luke Bowers of The Climbing Depot said: “I have used International Timber before and I knew they provided good value for money and a great service.

“I have used cheaper products than birch plywood before but there is nothing that matches its quality for such an application – it really is bomb-proof which is what we need here at the climbing centre.

“I would not hesitate to recommend International Timber to others in the leisure industry.”

Liam Kelly from International Timber said: “Yorkshire Climbing Co were a pleasure to work with and we look forward to working them in the future as we supply more and more products to the leisure market.”
